When president Hubert Nagel expressed his anger about the perform ance and the style of his team in public, Coach Edmund Stöhr threw in the towel at the end of the season. He accused his president of being inconstant and went to Leipzig in the Regionalliga of Saxony. Although they were not relegated, Lustenau had a very poor season indeed, winning only four of the 35 games with 23 goals scored. It was the German coach, however, who had lead the club from third Division to the Bundesliga within five years. "What we now need is more attractive, more courageous football. We owe it to the fans and the sponsors", says Nagel. Every game in the Reichshofstadion used to be a big party. For the new season Lustenau bought the two midfielders Danijel Brezic from Rudar Velenje and Goran Stanisavljevic (35) from Ried, so as the striker Alex Marcelino (BRA/22). The many fans -- more than 7000 per game -- will love this move as much as the sponsoring tobacco corporation Memphis. -ba
Weil Präsident Hubert Nagel seiner Unzufriedenheit über die Leistungen und die Spielweise der Mannschaft in der Öffentlichkeit Ausdruck verlieh, nahm Trainer Edmund Stöhr Ende letzter Saison den Hut. Er warf seinem Präsidenten Wankelmütigkeit vor und wechselte zum sächsischen Regionalligisten Leipzig. Allerdings hatte Lustenau trotz Klassenerhalt mit nur vier Siegen und 23 erzielten Toren in 35 Spielen eine enttäuschende Saison hinter sich. Zuvor hatte der Deutsche die Vorarlberger in fünf Jahren von der 3. Division in die Bundesliga geführt. "Wir brauchen wieder attraktiveren, mutigeren Fussball. Das sind wir den Fans und Sponsoren schuldig," ist sich Nagel bewusst. Im Reichshofstadion war einst jedes Spiel ein Fest. Für die Zukunft sicherte sich Lustenau die Dienste der beiden Mittelfeldspieler Danijel Brezic von Rudar Velenje und Goran Stanisavljevic (35) von Ried sowie des Stürmers Alex Marcelino (BRA/22). Die zahlreichen Zuschauer, über 7000 pro Spiel, werden's genauso zu schätzen wissen wie Tabakkonzern und Sponsor Memphis. -lb
