Hrvatski Dragovoljac Zagreb are clearly overshadowed by the top team of the capital, Croatia. As can be guessed by the club name -- Hrvatski meaning Croatia -- the team include only Croats. For financial reasons the club have to sell their best players to the city rival or foreign clubs again and again, thus the squad is made up of many young up and coming players, such as the U21 internationals Nevio Berdi and Branko Hucika, whose future seems very bright. The star of the team is Mario Bazina, who can be lined up in midfield as well as in attack. With his seven goals scored in the last season, he was the best goal scorer of the team. Hrvatski play a rather defensive style also at home. Lacking a home stade, they have to play their home games in Sisak 50 km away, where rarely more than 2,000 spectators show up. -ba
Hrvatski Dragovoljac Zagreb steht in der Hauptstadt klar im Schatten der Spitzenmannschaft von Croatia. Wie man auf Grund des Vereinsnamens erahnen kann -- Hrvatski heisst nämlich Kroatien --, setzt sich das Team ausschliesslich aus Kroaten zusammen. Der Klub muss aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen die besten Spieler immer wieder an den Stadtrivalen oder ausländische Klubs verkaufen. Deshalb stehen viele junge, eigene Nachwuchsspieler im Kader, wie zum Beispiel die U21-Nationalspieler Nevio Berdi und Branko Hucika. Ihnen wird eine grosse Zukunft vorausgesagt. Als Starspieler gilt Mario Bazina, der sowohl im offensiven Mittelfeld wie im Angriff eingesetzt werden kann. Mit sieben Toren war er letzte Saison der gefährlichste Stürmer der Mannschaft. Hrvatski pflegt auch zuhause einen eher defensiven Stil. Die Mannschaft hat kein eigentliches Heim. Sie musste ihre Heimspiele im vergangenen Jahr im 50 km entfernten Sisak austragen, wo kaum mehr als 2'000 Zuschauer zu den Partien kommen. -sw
