Boby Brno, which used to be called Zidenice, Red Star, Spartak or Zbrojovka, had their best time at the end of the seventies. Supported by the machine and weapon manufacturer Zbrojovka, the Czechoslovaks won twice against Standard Liège in the spring of 1980, thus reaching the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup. One of their best players then was Karel Jarusek, today's coach. After three rounds last season, he took over from Karel Vecera. With their 1-2-5-2 system, however, the young team continued to lack penetration in the attack, missing the UEFA Cup by far. It did not help of course that the U21 international Milan Pacanda missed the crucial games in the final rounds of the championship due to a knee injury. Recently he underwent surgery in Germany and will not be able to take part in the Intertoto Cup. Despite the rather mediocre football they play, the club of the Moravian capital draw an average attendance of 12'000, the best in the league. -ba
Boby Brno, das früher unter den Namen Zidenice, Roter Stern, Spartak oder Zbrojovka auftrat, hatte seine besten Zeiten Ende der 70er Jahre. Unterstützt vom Maschinen- und Waffenhersteller Zbrojovka gewannen die Tschechoslowaken im Frühling 1980 zweimal gegen Standard Lüttich und erreichten so die Viertelfinals im UEFA-Cup. Einer der Besten war damals Karel Jarusek, der heutige Trainer. Letzte Saison löste er nach drei Runden Karel Vecera ab. Im 1-2-5-2-System blieb die junge Mannschaft im Angriff aber weiterhin harmlos und hatte keine Chance auf den UEFA-Cup. Dies auch, weil der U21-Internationale Milan Pacanda in der Schlussphase der Meisterschaft wegen einer Knieverletzung fehlte. Er wurde kürzlich in Deutschland operiert und steht im Intertoto-Cup kaum zur Verfügung. Trotz fussballerischem Mittelmass weist der Verein in der mährischen Hauptstadt mit fast 12'000 Zuschauern pro Heimspiel den höchsten Durchschnitt der Liga auf. -lb
