Gotu's winning streak with six titles in five years has come to an end. Although coach Johan Nielsen, their successful coach of the golden era (1990-1995), came back last year, the success did not follow suit. The fans in the small town of 900 inhabitants are not satisfied at all. One reason for the bad performances -- for the first time since 1994 they did not qualify for the UEFA-Cup -- -may be the age of the leading players. In the meantime the club are looking for new players, but the bad weather conditions on the island and the meagre payment of the amateur players do not make it easy for the club management. With their 3-5-2-system they had their strong points in the attack. The UIC games will be played in the national stadium Toftirs, 10 km away, where the only grass pitch of the island exists. Unlike the national team, Gotu were not able to fight back against opponents from the continent or England, as is shown by the aggregate score of 6:35, the result of five appearances in European Competitions. -ba

Die Dominanz Gotus mit sechs Titeln in fünf Jahren gehört der Vergangenheit an. Mit Trainer Johan Nielsen ist der damalige Königsmacher (1990-1995) letztes Jahr zurückgekehrt -- nicht aber der Erfolg. Im Neunhundertseelendorf ist man mit den Leistungen der Mannschaft derzeit nicht glücklich. Die Leistungsträger sind in die Jahre gekommen, weshalb sich GI letzten Herbst erstmals seit 1995 nicht für den UEFA-Cup qualifizierte. Einstweilen hat sich der Verein auf die Suche nach neuen Spielern gemacht. Die widrigen Witterungsverhältnisse auf der Insel und bescheidene Siegesprämien für die reinen Amateure erschweren aber die Verhandlungen. Der Angriff war einst die Stärke Gotus, das gewöhnlich im 3-5-2-System mit Libero spielt. Die UIC-Spiele werden im 10 km entfernten Nationalstadion Toftirs, dem einzigen mit Rasenplatz, austragen. Im Gegensatz zur Landesauswahl hielt Gotu bei seinen fünf Teilnahmen im Europacup dem Vergleich mit kontinentalen und britischen Gegnern nie stand, wie das Gesamtskore von 6:35 zeigt. -lb
