Coach Giya Tebuchava joined the team only this spring. He used to be the goalkeeper with Torpedo Kutaisi and Kolkheti Poti. Tebuchava has the former strikers Mikheil Kobuladze, Gocha Trapaidze and Giya Giorgadze play in midfield; no wonder that the team's strength is the attack. The club are owned by Georgia's biggest harbour company. It owns the stadium, too, which holds only 2000 and is currently being enlarged. On an international level, the Georgians did not have any success so far: in the UEFA Cup they were eliminated twice in the pre-qualification already, one year against Dynamo Minsk and in the other year against Red Star Belgrade. Zavely Gaganidze, who continues to be one of the pillars of the team, scored one goal in the useless 2:1 win over Minsk in the return match after they had lost the away game 0:1. In the Intertoto Cup 1996 Kolkheti did not win a single point against Guingamp (Fr), Zemun (Jug), Jari Jakobstad (Fi) and Dinamo Bukarest. -ba
Erst seit diesem Frühjahr wird die Mannschaft durch Giya Tebuchava betreut. Er stand einst bei Torpedo Kutaisi und Kolkheti Poti zwischen den Pfosten. Tebuchava setzt die gelernten Stürmer Mikheil Kobuladze, Gocha Trapaidze und Giya Giorgadze allesamt im Mittelfeld ein. Es ist deshalb nicht verwunderlich, dass die Stärken Kolkhetis in der Offensive liegen. Besitzer des Vereins ist die grösste Hafen-Gesellschaft Georgiens. Ihr gehört auch das Stadion, das eine Kapazität von nur 2000 Sitzplätzen aufweist und momentan ausgebaut wird. Auf internationalem Parkett haben die Georgier bisher keinen Erfolg gehabt: Im UEFA-Cup schieden sie in den letzen zwei Jahren gegen Dynamo Minsk und Roter Stern Belgrad schon in der Vorqualifikation aus. Zavely Gaganidze, der weiterhin zu den Leistungsträgern gehört, schoss gegen Minsk eines der Tore zum 2:1-Pyrrhussieg im Rückspiel. Das Auswärtsspiel war zuvor 0:1 verloren gegangen.
