In the team of Virginijus Liubsys, who used to be the goalkeeper of Panevezys, there are no internationals, but four young players, who regularly play in Lithuania's junior selections, among them the 17 year old Kestutis Zeniauskas, who forms a dangerous pair in attack together with Egidijus Varnas, and the 18 year old goalkeeper Simas Skinderis. Mindaugas Gardzijauskas is a defender in the U21 team, but with Ekranas he plays mainly in midfield. He is an unspectacular, but very team oriented player. Coach Liubsys, defender Raimondas Petrukaitis and the former striker and now midfielder Audrius Banevicius, the current team captain, are the only players left from the team that won the national championship in 1993. Apart from them, only Vitalijus Danilicevas is more than 25 years old. In the Cup Winners' Cup last year, Panevezys was 2:0 ahead (after having lost 1:2 at home) against Apollon Limassol, when a great error by goalkeeper Liubauskas put an end to all the dreams. -ba
Im Kader von Virginijus Liubsys, dem einstigen Torhüter Panevezys', stehen keine Nationalspieler, aber vier junge Spieler, die alle in Juniorenauswahlen Litauens zum Einsatz kommen. So zum Beispiel der 17jährige Kestutis Zeniauskas, der mit Egidijus Varnas ein gefährliches Angriffsduo bildet, oder der erst 18jährige Goalie Simas Skinderis. In der U21-Auswahl wird Panevezys durch Mindaugas Gardzijauskas vertreten. Der gelernte Verteidiger wird bei Ekranas oft im Mittelfeld eingesetzt. Er spielt nicht spektakulär aber mannschaftsdienlich. Aus dem Meisterteam von 1993 sind nur Trainer Liubsys, Verteidiger Raimondas Petrukaitis und der einstige Stürmer und aktuelle Captain Audrius Banevicius übriggeblieben, der jetzt im Mittelfeld spielt. Daneben ist nur noch Vitalijus Danilicevas 25 Jahre alt oder mehr. Im Cup der Cupsieger führte Panevezys letzten Herbst bei Apollon Limassol nach einer 1:2-Heimniederlage mit 2:0, bevor ein schwerer Fehler von Torhüter Liubauskas zum Aus führte. -lb
