Malta's record holder in terms of championships and cup a wins had another disappointing season. The last of 25 championships goes back to 1993. Just like last season, the team finished only fifth and have to wait another year for a European appearance. However, in 20 appearances they survived the first round only once (1994 against Panevezys/LTU). The worst case scenario in the eyes of the fans happened last season, when they lost all the four games gainst their arch rival and reigning champion FC Valletta, three times in the championship and once in the cup. But Drajko Sokolov, their coach from Bulgaria, who is in his second year, sees a positive future: He has a number of promising young players in his squad, such as the U21-internationals William Camenzuli, Jonathan Holland and Antoine Zahra. As soon as they have acquired more experience, the team could actually get back to the top in Malta again. -ba

Maltas Rekordmeister und -pokalsieger hat eine weitere enttäuschende Saison hinter sich. Der letzte von 25 Meistertiteln geht aufs Jahr 1993 zurück. Wie bereits im Vorjahr ist man nicht über den 5. Schlussrang hinausgekommen und muss ein weiteres Jahr auf eine Teilnahme am Europacup verzichten. Bei 20 Teilnahmen an UEFA-Wettbewerben haben die Malteser ohnehin erst einmal eine Runde überstanden (1994 gegen Panevezys/LTU). Besonders bitter für die Anhänger war letzte Saison, dass ihr Team alle vier Spiele gegen den Erzrivalen und Meister FC Valletta verlor (dreimal in der Meisterschaft und einmal im Cup). Der bulgarische Trainer Drajko Sokolov, der seine zweite Saison bei Floriana in Angriff nimmt, sieht die Zukunft jedoch positiv: Im Kader stehen einige junge Spieler wie zum Beispiel die U21-Nationalspieler William Camenzuli, Jonathan Holland und Antoine Zahra.
